Know the History
"Are you considered a sneakerhead if you don't know the history?"
Wednesday January 20th - 2021
Does Sneaker History
even matter anymore?
Can you be considered a sneakerhead without knowledge of the history?
The history matters. Or does it??
You know sometimes I find myself in limbo when it comes to a subject like this.
The history matters and then it doesn't. People care and then they don't.
Just as bland as these opening statements are, is just as much as the history is needed and unneeded at the same time.

Now did that make sense? Who knows, but I'm not changing my opinionated fact.
This excerpt is only meant to inform and think. There's no need to pick a side because even if you did, you wouldn't change. Let me explain.
The answer is yes... and no.
The photos above are the past, present, and as this is being written; future.
Picture one is the Jordan 11 sketch before production, the second picture is the final product, and the third photo is a new Jordan 11 that arrived this past December.
I'm fascinated at the fact that the Jordan 11 sketches looked like the Nike Zoom Sharkleys.

Now I wanna know which came 1st? The sketches or sharkleys?
For me, the Answer is Yes.
Now I'm not no critic or sneaker philosopher, but I like authenticity within myself.
In high school I went on a date to the mall with a friend. I really liked this girl and this proves it.

As much as I don't wanna express this, for the sake of sneakers, I'm all in.
Our little day date went as follows.

    • Food Court
    • Photos in hot topic (which were deleted lol)
    • Boba
    • A trip to Vans

Anyone who knows me, knows that's not me, and for the record, yes she was whi- Indian! Look at you! Thought she was Caucasian huh? Moving along...
    Vans Sk8 Hi Iron Maiden
As much as I'd like to claim I was being open minded on this outing, I wasn't.
This was freshman year...I had motives. Do with that statement as you will ????. However, for someone who knew nothing about Vans, this is the sneaker that almost changed my mind. The Vans Sk8 High "Iron Maiden".
"This yellow screamed louder than the Greenday playing on the store speaker. I had to have it."
Oddly enough, I could've actually got away with it since I'm from California.
All in all, I just didn't have it in me. It didn't feel right without knowing "something".

I didn't want the stigma of trying to fit in either.
How many times have you seen the hipster in a WuTang tee
and they can't name all the members?
That's how I perceived myself in that climate.
    How do your peers feel?
Sneakerheads of today feel like they have some type of hierarchy because they "know the history". Half the time they think they're putting us on and don't realize the "knowledge" being shared is common. Hearing a Sneakerhead trying to put us up on game always sounds annoying and forced.

"Did you know this was the pair Jordan wore in game 6?"

This sneaker was designed by Tinker Hatfield!"

"We've found new information that Jordan's Flu Game was from bad pizza!"

    Fam.....we know. I promise.

    Know the basics.....
    We finally get the retros
Now what have we learned today?

We learned that my classmates clowned me for my flint 13s in 2010 and now they're flexing in 2020 with the same pair.

Wait, what were we talking about? Ah yes, history!

My best advice is to know just enough. Name, color-way, affiliates, etc. Thats It. Also, if you got a size 10 in the Iron Maid-....you know what never mind.
